Upon arrival at Borneo Rainforest Lodge, settle in and get ready for an introduction to the day's nature activities. The schedule includes guided nature trails, providing insights into the rich biodiversity of the area. Experience the Canopy Walkway, a remarkable 360-meter-long structure suspended 27 meters above the ground, offering an unparalleled view of the rainforest. As the day winds down, embark on a Night Drive or Night Walk, a unique opportunity to witness the jungle come alive after dark.

Day 2

Awaken to the enchanting calls of Bornean Gibbons as your second day kicks off with a guided trek to the "View Point" and "Coffin Cliff," an ancient Dusun Subpan burial site. Take a rejuvenating break by the Natural Jacuzzi pool before relishing lunch at the Lodge. The afternoon offers optional activities: join a guided jungle trek or, weather permitting, enjoy a thrilling Water Tubing session down the Danum River for an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions on this customised tour. Also, please feel free to check out our Facebook. If you still can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just Contact us!

What can I see?

You can gain the first-hand experience to be close with a multitude of flora and fauna in this 130-million-year-old rainforest. Some species are endemic to Borneo and they are the sambar deer, civets, lizards, butterflies, birds and several species of primates and insects. You can spot them with the help of our nature guides.

Are there leeches during the walk?

Leeches are common in the rainforest and there are 2 types of species found in Danum Valley. The brown leeches live on the ground and the tiger leeches are on the leaves. Leech bites are not harmful but it may leave a slight discomfort feeling from the bite. So far, we have no record of infection resulting from a leech bite.

Is Wi-Fi service available at the lodge?

Wi-Fi is available at the main lodge. However, due to the remoteness of our location, internet and mobile connection are limited to 2G access at best only.

How do I prepare myself for the walks?

Light and comfortable clothing, small back-pack, sunscreen lotion, insect repel- lent cream, hat, hand towel, drinking water and a walking stick are essential. (See below on Your Essential Items)

Should I be worried about mosquitoes?

Danum Valley is considered to be a low- risk area for malaria transmission. However, it is advisable to take all necessary measures to prevent mosquito bites especially during dusk and dawn. It is advisable also to keep the veranda door closed during the day to avoid mosquitoes entering the room. All rooms are installed with mosquito netting and are provided with an electronic mosquito repellent.

What kind of telecommunication facility is available in the lodge?

We rely on satellite communication and landline phone are provided in each room. Guests can use the main lodge services for fixed line calling, emailing and faxing.

Is the nature walk safe for children?

It depends on the age of the children and their fitness level. Our 22 marked trails are fully guided and a safety briefing is done before every trekking. Alter- natively, our self-guided nature trail on an elevated boardwalk with interpretation is suitable for younger children, elderly and lower fitness groups.

What should I do when I am sick?

If a doctor consultation is deemed necessary, we will make an immediate arrangement to send a quest to the nearest medical facility for treatment. For minor injury, our service associates are trained with first aid and can assist with a remedy if feeling unwell.

What is the weather like?

Humid and hot with the occasional rain shower. During the day, temperatures are usually between 28-30 degree Celsius. The evenings are usually cooler and with the occasional light forest breeze.

Surpassed Expectations
I never write reviews but really needed to big up this little gem. Honestly can’t believe any negative reviews on here. This place surpassed my expectationsYes the rooms are basic but this is a 2 star. We were the new style lodges which were clean and spacious. Massive bathroom with walk in shower, large twin room with veranda looking over the river, great air con. Chairs on veranda, nice toiletries, tea and coffee and 2 new golf umbrellas. Food was good choice of fish dish, chicken, beef and 2 vegetable dishes per meal with rice and noodles, soup and fruit. Simple food but totally ok. I am gluten free and vegan and they made sure I ate well every meal. Guide and river cruise were amazing. Saw the Borneo big 5 crocodiles, proboscis monkey, hornbills orangutan and elephants on 2 occasions. This was very special and the guide was in constant contact with other guides on a what’s ap groups to make sure he found everything . Ramzan our guide was just as excited as us when he heard there were elephants up steam and got us there as quickly as possible. 4 of us shared the boat with 4 lovely people from Italy so only 8 of us. Night walks were great and we saw a variety of birds sleeping and many different types of insects .All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made this an incredible experience. Yes this is a 2 star chalet but definitely exceeded my expectations. Thank you everyone xx
There is a lot monkeys to see and we managed to see few different types of hornbill. Overall it's a great experience and highly recommended

À great place to discover Sabah's wildlife. The lodge has budget type accommodation as well as private chalets, the new ones (the "Gaja" chalets) are definitely luxurious. But all chalets are very clean, air-conditioned and with private, vast bathrooms and other facilities, such as a tea kettle and drinking water. The owner is very environmentally conscious and the accent is on nature conservation, awareness and education. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is good and the bar sells next to soft drinks also beers and a few select wines, at reasonable prices. The nature guides are very knowledgeable locals who go out of their way to make sure you spot a maximum of wildlife during your stay, which in my opinion should not be shorter than three days / two nights.
