5D4N Gems of Sandakan Kinabatangan River Cruise, Jungle Trekking

1) 06:00 hrs – Morning at Selingan Island

• Wake up early and enjoy the sunrise.
• Pack up your belongings.
• Breakfast will be served at the restaurant.
• Depart by boat from the island back to Sandakan.

2) 08:30 hrs – Arrive in Sandakan & Begin City Tour

First stops:

• Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple
  Located on a hilltop with panoramic views of Sandakan Bay.
• St. Michael and All Angels Church
  The first stone building in Sandakan and one of the few remaining stone buildings in Sabah.

3) 10:00 hrs – Continue City Tour

• Agnes Keith House
  The home where Land Below the Wind and White Man Returns were written.
• War Memorial Park
  Historical site of a WWII prisoner-of-war camp where thousands of Australian and British soldiers lost their lives.

After the visits, proceed for lunch.

4) 12:30 hrs – Lunch

• Lunch at Mango Garden Restaurant, Sepilok.

5) 13:00 hrs – Check-In

• Check in to your room at Tanini Sepilok.

6) 14:00 hrs – Visit to Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC)

• Learn about the importance and uniqueness of the Bornean rainforest.
• Walk along the canopy walkway for a bird’s-eye view.
• Explore the botanical garden, home to many species of flora and fauna.

7) 16:00 hrs – Return to Tanini Sepilok

19:00 hrs – Dinner

• Dinner at Mango Garden Restaurant, Sepilok.
• A variety of drinks are available: soft drinks, fresh juices, smoothies, hot & cold beverages, as well as canned beers and wines.

Have a good rest and overnight stay.

Wake up and get ready for an exciting day ahead.

2) 08:00 hrs – Breakfast & Check-Out

• Check out from your room.
• Breakfast is served at Mango Garden Restaurant.
• Your guide will meet you at the restaurant.

3) 09:00 hrs – Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center

Visit the famous center dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned or injured Orang Utans.

• Walk along the boardwalk to the feeding platform.
• Feeding time: 10:00 hrs
• Watch Orang Utans being fed by wildlife rangers in their natural habitat.

4) 11:00 hrs – Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre

• Visit the world’s first conservation centre for Sun Bears.
• Learn about this unique species — the smallest bear in the world, found only in Southeast Asia.
• Keep an eye on the trees — Sun Bears are excellent climbers!

5) 12:00 hrs – Lunch

Lunch at Mango Garden Restaurant, Sepilok.

6) 12:30 hrs – Journey to Kinabatangan

Travel on a scenic country road through secondary forest, plantations, small villages, and local shops.

• Stop at Medan Selera Kota Kinabatangan to pick up more guests.
• Toilets available (fee applies).
• This is the last toilet stop before reaching Bilit village (approx. 1 hour more).

7) 15:00 hrs – Arrive at Bilit Jetty

• Drive through the narrow winding road of Bilit village.
• Arrive at Bilit jetty and ensure you have all belongings.
• Boat captain will assist with bags and life jackets.
• Cross the Kinabatangan River to Tanini Kinabatangan Lodge.

Upon arrival:

• Welcome drink at reception.
• Orientation briefing on the lodge, safety procedures, and your activity schedule.
• Collect room keys and settle in.

Evening boat cruise begins at 16:00 hrs — be at the jetty 10 minutes earlier.

8) 16:00 hrs – Evening Boat Cruise

Cruise along the mighty Kinabatangan River, Sabah’s longest river (560 km).

Possible wildlife sightings include:

• Proboscis monkeys
• Macaques
• Silver langurs
• Various hornbill species
• Kingfisher birds
• Oriental darters
• Snakes

You may also encounter:

• Borneo Pygmy Elephants
• Orang Utans

(Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed as animals roam freely in nature.)

9) 18:00 hrs – Dinner

Return to the lodge to freshen up, then enjoy dinner at Tanini Kinabatangan.

10) 20:00 hrs – Night Walk

Join a guided night walk behind the lodge to search for nocturnal wildlife.

11) 20:45 hrs – Overnight

Return to the lodge and rest.
Overnight stay at Tanini Kinabatangan.

1) 05: 30 hrs
Wake up to the gentle sounds of birds and prepare for the morning river cruise. Meet your guide at the jetty.

2) 06: 00 hrs
Set out on a morning river cruise, enjoying the cool breeze while spotting wildlife along the riverbank. Many animals linger here overnight and feed before retreating into the forest to avoid predators and the midday heat. Wildlife is most active during early morning and evening. Afterward, you’ll have some free time in the middle of the day to read, take a nap, or participate in optional activities.

3) 07: 00 hrs
Return to the lodge for breakfast at Tanini Kinabatangan.

4) 09: 00 hrs
Join your guide for a nature walk along the Kinabatangan River, exploring the rich flora and fauna of the area.

5) 12:00 hrs
Lunch at Mango Garden Restaurant Kinabatangan. The afternoon is free for leisure until the next river cruise. You can choose to join optional activities such as:

• Tree planting to support forest restoration in the Kinabatangan area.
• Batik silk painting, featuring the wildlife of Kinabatangan, which you can take home as a keepsake.

6) 16:00 hrs
Embark on an evening river cruise to observe wildlife and birdlife along the mighty Kinabatangan River. This 560 km-long river is home to remarkable wildlife, including proboscis monkeys, macaques, silver langurs, hornbills, kingfishers, oriental darters, and snakes. You may also catch a glimpse of the endemic Borneo Pygmy Elephants (the world’s smallest elephants) or the elusive Orangutan. Please note that wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

7) 18:00 hrs
Return to the lodge, freshen up, and enjoy dinner.

8) 20: 00 hrs
Experience a night trek to observe sleeping birds and other nocturnal creatures in the jungle.

9) 20:45 hrs
Return to your room. Overnight at the lodge.

1) 05:30 hrs
Get ready for your final river cruise along the Kinabatangan River.

2) 07:00 hrs
Return to the lodge for breakfast, then head back to your room to pack.

3) 08:30 hrs
Say your farewells to the Tanini Kinabatangan staff before traveling back to your drop-off point. Continue your journey to Sandakan, and be dropped off either at your accommodation or Sandakan Airport.
